Gallery Shoal Creek

Gallery Shoal Creek is pleased to present Bonnie Lynch’s exquisite Organic Vessels. Whether created on the vast expanses of far West Texas or in her Austin studio, Lynch’s ceramic work references the simple, elegant forms of nature and the seductive silence of a desert landscape. For Lynch, who grew up on a ranch east of El Paso, the open land remains a constant inspiration for creating vessels of clarity and scale.
Organic in nature, Lynch’s vessels are constructed with hand-formed coils, layered and smoothed, and once dry, packed in straw and manure for pit and kiln firing. The resulting finishes are left to chance and depend entirely on the interaction between clay, fire, and the variations in temperature, humidity and wind. The interior form - almost accidentally created during the firing process - is as important as the exterior. Suddenly, there is this infinite empty, negative space - like a pause that enhances the surrounding form.”The austere orbs articulate balance, each achieving a precarious equilibrium between mass and emptiness.

Shade Tree Potter
Susie Fowler

I want my artwork to remind us, wherever we are at the moment, that beauty calmly waits to renew us and to reconnect us to the Earth. My "mission" is to capture nature’s vitality and preserve it in a way that the collector will experience daily the inherent grace in all things that grow, be it the jagged tooth pattern from a deer’s jawbone or the delicate intricacy of a cardinal feather revealed in clay’s finely grained texture. I make one of a kind pieces and I love collaboration: putting collectors’ ideas into my own clay forms. With colored coils and slabs of nature impressed clay, I’ve built treasure pots, memorial urns, wedding vases, christening bowls, orchid pots and sculptures to fit in that niche in the wall.
So consider yourself invited to my studio/gallery/home on the cliff above the Pedernales River, 12 miles west of Bee Cave Rd on Hwy 71. Bring your camera, sit a while on the porch, and catch the spirit of the Edwards Plateau.
OPEN WEEKENDS 10 – 5, OR BY Appointment.
